Sunspiration - Goals

What? I know what you're thinking, there is no such word as sunspiration. As it turns out others across the web are using this term (sunshine + inspiration).

I'm thinking okay, I'm not all that original...well, maybe a little. I am joining Sunday and inspiration to form my version of "sunspiration" for my new weekly post idea.

With that, let me say..."Welcome to my first addition of Sunspiration!"

A new year, a new beginning. For many of us, this is the way we envision the start of a calendar year. This is why we jot down our resolutions or better still our hopes, our plans, or our goals. A few will be successful in achieving all of his/her goals, some will strike off a handful of his/her aspirations, and others may be unable to reach any of his/her dreams.

I'm one of those in the "some" category, but I'm also in the "others" category, too. The thing is, I use to let this bother me a lot. Now, I just make each new year a continuation of the last with the unobtainable goals with the hope I eventually get it right till all my resolutions are crossed off.

Last year's biggest goal was to become debt-free. We managed to do this freeing ourselves of normal financial obligations (mortgage & credit cards). This has been a very liberating, but for how long?

My goal for 2013 is to find our "dream house". This will throw us out of our debt-free status unless we can win the lottery or Publisher's Clearing House sweeps and I for one don't see that happening. Hopefully the mistakes which kept us crippled in the past will be water under a bridge and our lessons learned to help us govern the way we handle things in future debt management.

With goal setting, I often think of Jeremiah 29:11. "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."

While God knows everything about my life (and yours) it pays for me (and you) to be responsible in doing what I (you) can do. That being said, I think this article Five Golden Rules for Successful Goal Setting  can be helpful in motivating me (you) in the right direction.

How do you feel about making goals?

Share with us one goal(s) you achieved.  Be it last year or whenever, an accomplishment period is a good way to sunspire anyone.

Next week's Sunspiration topic will be "Ways to Inspire Others". I hope you'll decide to stop by!

I love your take on the words together.

And congrats on getting out of debt. I remember when we buckled down and got out too.
Now I just want our CC down to an acceptable rate.
I want dh to be on the same page about money that is ours and that is not ours.

Good luck with your list honey.

A goal I have is to learn to park well. I'm practicing.

Another, go back to school.

Happy Sunspiration!

Getting out of debt is a great feat! Getting the dream house will show how hard you worked to get to this point last year! The sunspiration is a great thing to think about!

CC are a nightmare unless you pay them off every month. You may want to consider getting a new card which offers 0% APR for 18 months or long(that is if you think you can pay your balance off in that time or if not the APR is better than what you currently) then figure out what you need to pay each month to reach your pay off goal. I did this with one of ours and it worked great for us. Best of luck to you!

I love setting goals.

I've learned over the years to make them attainable so I don't get so stressed.

My husband lost his business last December.

It was an icky time.

We've spent this year rebuilding, revamping, rethinking and redoing everything. We're on our way again and I know we wouldn't be without some seriously intent goal setting a year ago!
